The DoD announced $220 million in awards for basic research projects as part of the Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) Program. At an average award amount of $7.1 million over five years, these competitive grants will support 31 teams located at 61 U.S. academic institutions, subject to satisfactory research progress and the availability of funds.

For more than 30 years, the prestigious MURI program has been supporting teams of researchers from diverse disciplines to collaborate on investigating basic research questions of critical import to the DoD. Teams are awarded up to $7.5 M over five years to conduct their research. MURI awardees have gone on to create companies, establish new fields of inquiry, and lay the groundwork for some of the DoD’s most cutting-edge technologies.

Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellow, Prof. Nadar Engheta has been selected as a recipient of the 2023 Benjamin Franklin Medal

Prof. Nadar Engheta (VBFF class of 2015), Professor in Electrical and Systems Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, was awarded the 2023 Benjamin Franklin Medal, for the scientific research advances in engineering and physics he led during his Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship.

Howard University as the first HBCU to lead a University Affiliated Research Center

The Department of the Air Force has selected Howard University as the first Historically Black College or University to lead a University Affiliated Research Center. The center will be focused on tactical autonomy technology for military systems and Howard University will receive $12 million per year for five years to fund research, faculty, and students.
