The Department of Defense (DoD) is soliciting applications for the Bilateral Academic Research Initiative (BARI) Pilot Program. BARI supports basic collaborative research between U.S. and U.K institutions of higher education to combine unique skillsets and approaches that can provide rapid advances in scientific areas of potential interest to the U.S. DoD and U.K. Ministry of Defense (MoD). The program has a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and collaborative decision making with a research goal to develop approaches that may enable collaborative human-machine decision making. The end goal is for humans and technology to be effective parts of the same team, which is an essential step toward a more general AI that is capable of true human-machine teaming.
