Dr. Teri Odom, an acclaimed professor at Northwestern University, was awarded a 2017 Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship to develop a new class of materials, (i.e. metamaterials) with exceptional optical, electronic and quantum properties. Although she enjoys her career of scientific discovery now, this was not the original career Dr. Odom envisioned for herself as a college student. Dr. Odom recently shared her personal story and pathway to a scientific career with the American Chemical Society.
Dr. Odom is the Charles E. and Emma H. Morrison Professor and Associate Chair of the Department of Chemistry at Northwestern University. She is also the Executive Editor of ACS Photonics and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of ACS Nano.
